Welcome to J!User
The goal of this project is to help provide support for abandoned, unmaintained and outdated Joomla components, modules and plugins.
The intention of this is to help people to run websites that rely on these outdated components, but are unable to migrate to a more current alternative.
The components currently supported by the J!User community can be found on Github and are linked to elsewhere on the website. Check the 'Support' forum to see if the component you are interested in is already listed there. If it is something that is currently supported it will have its own dedicated sub forum.
Each sub forum provides a dedicated place to discuss bugs, fixes, configuration, support, help and basically anything else that relates to using that component. You will also find the link to the GitHub repository in the post pinned to the top of the forum along with the release notes for that version. Check the version number against your own version, it may have already been updated. If it has, then follow the link to download the updated version.
If you cannot find your component listed, then please feel free to start a discussion thread right here in this forum. Make the title the name of the component and then include as many details about the component as possible. The author or company, the most recent version, compatibility, the URL where it can be found etc. In fact anything that you think may be of use. Then outline the issue that you are experiencing with it.
One of the admins will review it and determine if it something that can be supported by the community.
If the component is accepted it will get its own dedicated forum and code fork / GitHub repository. We will then take a look at trying to resolve the reported issues to help get the component up and running again.
Limitations
There are some limitations to what we can do...
- We can only support GPL licensed code. (This is basically all Joomla related code)
- We only support / fork the most recent version of a component.
- We prefer not to support modded components
- We do not support currently maintained code (we arrrr not pirates, arrrr!)
- We do not support templates
- We prefer that suggestions are backed by other users who use the component as well
Of course, there may be exceptions to any and all of these. Every suggestion is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The more info you can include, the better equipped we will be to make an informed decision.
We hope that the J!User community can help you to resolve your code issues.
